“hello,” i said into the phone, trying to pretend like my blissful state of napdom was not rudely interrupted by the phone.
“guess what?” i heard sister #4 screech. she was on her cell phone, no doubt tooling about in the short bus.
“what?” i said, feigning interest.
“i went into chipotle dressed as a burrito today and it was packed there were tons of people and they were all crabby with me because i looked like a giant burrito. but then when we finally got to the front of the line all the staff working there started clapping and whistling because i was the first burrito they had there all day. so then they give me my burrito free. some little girl thought i was a potato, you know like a baked potat but tracy (her friend) told the little girl i was a burrito, like a chipotle burriot, then the little girl got it. and i was so embarrassed, but i did get a free burrito. and then we went to caribou afterwards and i saw teresa daly. i got to talk to her and she said that her ads must be working because people were recognizing her all over the place and we’re like friends, now. i love her.”
“oh,” i said when she finally paused, because what else can you say to such a bounty of good news?
“yeah, it was so cool. i just had to call everyone i know.”
“cool.”
“well, i’m home now, that’s all.”
“talk to you later,” i said.
“bye.”
