kicking it old school

these salt and pepper shakers were my absolute favorite thing about the cabin. as soon as i saw them i wanted to shout (ala russell hammond from “Almost Famous”) “i grew up with that lampshade!” but FFJ’s never seen “Almost Famous” so the reference would have been lost on her. but i totally grew up with those salt and pepper shakers, they made me feel like a little kid again. i want some of those salt and pepper shakers. i wonder if tupperware still makes them. i think every bride circa 1970-1975 got a pair of those for their bridal shower.

FFJ’s parents built the cabin the year she was born, 1971, and you can so tell. it was so fucking fabulous with all its avacado green charm. it was totally old school and i wanted to eat it up. eat every bit of orange and green and yellow and macrame inch of it right up. i tried to eat the bert and ernie towel that was in the bathroom, but it was a little too chewy for me.

the cabin wasn’t retro, because retro takes work and is trying to do something. nope the cabin was totally kicking it old skool and i loved it. i can’t wait to go back.

you forgot to mention the foil wallpaper in my brothers room and the lasanga noodles from 1978. fyi – i did not burn the lasanga with these noodles, i brought more recent lasanga noodles. damn that patrick swayze and the working girl big hair.

That place is filled with hidden treasures, but just like the neighborhood you grew up in that you can no longer recognize, changes are being made all in the name of progress.

The latest casualty: linoleum floor and hydrocortisone cream circa 1978.

I see those shakers quite a bit at thrift stores. Want me to grab a set for you next time I find some?
