i’ve been lazily going about picking up the joint today. i put the itunes on party mix or whatever that new-fangled feature is, and just been sort of hanging out listening. then st. paul westerberg’s “what a day for a night” came on and it felt like someone was wrapping me in an old, soft sweater. it just fits so nice. it made me warm in the pit of my stomach and i started singing along.
then it was ike reilly’s “duty free” and i cannot even remember the last time i listened to that song.
then it was “tailspin” by the jayhawks followed by frank sinatra singing “swinging on a star” and then “sound of settling” by death cab for cutie. and just when i was about to be completely flabbergasted by my astoundingly good taste in music, kenny rogers’ “coward of the county” came on. but i was quickly redeemed by squeeze’s “tempted.” which always just makes me think of jeff johnson and amy skal and being stupid and 22.
now my throat is sorta dry and scratchy because i’ve sang along, really quite loud to each song that’s come on. when one comes on that i don’t want to sing along to, i’ve just been refreshing my party mix.
this is really entirely more fun than i would have ever imagined. it’s playing songs i forgot i had, and songs i didn’t realize i knew by heart. but mostly it’s just making me happy on a sunday afternoon and around here we can use as much happy as possible on sundays.
hi- great site- just wanted to tell you that ike reilly’s band is coming in the fall- don’t know where or when exactly but they had some really great shows at the turf club (and a new cd coming out then too)
I just found the Studio E records web site and their the ones releasing the new Ike Reilly Assassintion album. The site has a brand new Assassination forum! Check it out…
http://www.Studioerecords.com also check out the new video for “It’s alright to die” at http://www.modeproject.com under the lab section!
