the shipping news was a bit slow for my tastes.
i remember reading the e. annie proulx novel about a hundred years ago and loving it quite passionately. of course now, i can’t remember why. so i can’t even say how true to the book the movie stayed.
so yeah, it’s a pretty and plodding movie that is ultimately rewarding if you want to put forth the effort.

i still say you have to be canadian to truly appreciate that movie. no prejudice about anyone else, really; there are just too many in-jokes.
