A host of woes & one golden ray of sunshine

I’ve been having some server issues. It started a week or so ago when I was editing an older post, correcting some typo (oh yes, I correct them when I spot them. However, I do not (often) go back and fix the capitalization from the bonehead lowercase years). I was editing away and then poof!

Everything was gone.

That’s nearly 11 years of writing. 7,445 posts. More words than anyone should bother counting. Gone.

After winning the battle against the urge to vomit, I squeezed out a few tears, sent a panicked tweet, and then with a clear head set to Googling. my problem. A mere 12 minutes later it was fixed. Sadly, it was just the start of the problems. Or it was indicative of bigger problems to come. So does anyone have a web host that they love? I’m a little sad to break up with mine, since I’ve been with him for like 10 years. But things have been getting progressively worse and it’s time to fly the coop. So I’m open to suggestions.

It’s all fixed now and really three days of downtime isn’t going to kill anyone. Except me. I only have anything to say when I can’t say it on my website. All those brilliant ideas gone because I’m too stubborn to type them some place other than the little WordPress window.

Actually, it probably wasn’t brilliant at all. It was a lot of anxiety brought on by a slow, slow, ridiculously slow month and the giant tax bill. I’m afraid a real job may be in my future. I weep for the future.

In other more whiny news I have a cold. Having a cold on top of spring allergies is the kind of hell I will not wish upon anyone. It’s bad enough feeling kind of zombified with the allergies, but serve that up with a sore throat and a side of narcolepsy and you’ve got a something dreamed up by the God of Nasal Passages who is smiting you for taking all that easy, thoughtless breathing for granted.

The fun here is never ending.

But there is the golden ray of sunshine I promised in the title. Remember the last time I was bitching about taxes and work and bad macaroni and cheese? Well, I’ve found the best macaroni & cheese ever. Ever. EVER.

Confession: I didn’t actually find it so much as have the delightful, delicious, de-lovely Michael Schaub point me in the direction of Chipotle Macaroni & Cheese with Bacon. It is good and spicy and tasty the it cut through the allergy haze and made my tongue dance with joy. Two thumbs up. Way up.

I’ve been using HostGator for years now and have never had a problem with them at all. They’re tech support has been great and they’re super responsive. And they have a alligator on their website.

I’ve used MediaTemple for a couple of WordPress projects and they are rock solid both in terms of performance and support.
