“Write about this early.” Kelly popped her head back into Ruby before slamming the door.
“Are you kidding? I’m gonna blahg this as soon as I get home,” I said.
Here’s the deal. Kelly and I are on the hunt. We’ve decided that sitting at home in our pajamas chatting with each other is probably not the best way to meet men. We also know that neither of us are really the bar/club scene kind of lady. So Kelly, being the smartypants that she is, decided that Barnes & Noble was a huge untapped resource of literate men.
It was a brilliant plan. Books + potentially cute potentially single men who like to read = heaven. Plus there was cheesecake and people watching. There was no way this plan could go wrong.
And it didn’t. We just got back from our first night of manhunting and it was a blast. Easily the most fun I’ve had sober and clothed this year. Of course I didn’t talk to anyone besides Kelly, but I did make eye contact twice with the hottest guy at B&N. He was so cute Kelly wasn’t even sure he existed or if she imagined him. But, once we both saw him at the same time, we were convinced of his realness. Sadly, he left before I could get close enough to follow up my eye contact with a smile.
Baby steps here people.
As we sat in the little cafe eating cheesecake and people watching, I told Kelly that from now on I’m bringing Jed and live-blogging the whole event. I said I was going to make maps and let our location be known ahead of time in case other eligible booknerds wanted to join us on our quest. I said I was going to set goals and that next time we go we’re not leaving until i saw hi to some attractive gentleman.
Of course the best part of the night was talking books and writing with Kelly, which is what makes the plan foolproof. Because who isn’t gonna be drawn to two girls having a blast? Fun begets fun.
What about all the literate men who refuse to shop at B&N and instead frequent Borders? Are they to be left out in the cold in your plan of gentleman domination?
Another idea, how ’bout Electric Fetus? Not as many creature comforts, but much easier to see out past the sea of CDs than tall bookshelves.
We have borders on the list, never fear!
I’m still riding the waves of last night. What a blast.
