“we’ll be there in 2 minutes,” sister #2 said.
“why?” i asked.
“we just will, you’ll see,” she said.
“my house is a mess,” i said.
“i’m just sending the kids up,” she said.
so i waited.
and two minutes later their car pulled up. jaycie and max got out of the car and started walking secret agent style up to the patio. jaycie was crouched over trying to see through the hedge that lines the patio. max was behind her. she jumped up to see if i was looking.
“what?” i asked her through the screen door.
she didn’t answer and look at max, who was running around the side of the hedge to the patio.
“close your eyes,” he shouted.
i covered them.
“1 – 2 – 3,” they shouted together.
“open them,” max said.
“HAPPY MAY DAY,” they screamed.
“thank you,” i said, holding the little yellow bucket and trying not to cry.
that’s pretty much the awesomest thing ever.
