the competitive scrabble movie

i finally finished watching Word Wars: Tiles and Tribulations on the Scrabble Circuit. it’s an utterly fascinating train wreck of a documentary. it’s quite cleverly done with all sorts of little anagrams and word definitions thrown in through-out. i really enjoyed it, even more than Stephen Fatsis’ book Word Freak. i enjoyed it so much that when the national scrabble tournament announced the winner, i cried. i actually cried.

i just think it’s so fascinating how people get obsessed. and it seems like men are more obsessive about such things than women are, which makes it even more fascinating.

and there’s nothing quite like a movie about a bunch of freakshows to make you feel like less of a freak yourself. dietcokegurl, you’ll totally love it, i promise.

Oh this is too exciting. And my favorite quote from the trailer:

“You can beat God if you’ve got the right tiles.”

    Now THAT’S ballsy!!
