another one of my brilliant ideas

i didn’t do my homework last night, well not all of it. i did read Alice Munro’s short story “Labor Day Dinner.” have you read it? what did you think?

i probably have to read it again, because i’m not sure i got it. i still haven’t done the writing porition. but i’m pretty sure what it’s gonna be and how it’s gonna work. tonight, when i get home and after i destress from work i’m gonna head full-long into fiction land. it might prove interesting. my co-workers said they’d read it for me in the morning. maybe i’ll read it outloud to them, you know as practice. that might just be a brilliant idea.

from one writer to another, if you ever want to story swap, we could lend each other a hand. i’m taking a creative writing course myself this summer.

also, try reading the book “writing down the bones” by natalie goldberg (i think that’s her name). an excellent motivator.

take care and best of luck!

Reading your stuff out loud is HUGELY helpful. I just wrote a column on it for Fiction Forum. If you’re reading it to people you know, though, make sure they understand what it means to be a strategic reader. You can give someone constructive criticism without breaking their spirit.

Bottom line, it’s one of the Four Agreements — Don’ t Take Anything Personally. That means the good or the bad. Just be true to yourself. If there’s one thing you know, it’s how a loyal readership will adapt to YOUR storytelling. Don’t shy from that.
