and i thought berkeley was progressive

“In the other, from 1902, she warned that free-speech advocates ‘shall soon be obliged to meet in cellars, or in darkened rooms with closed doors, and speak in whispers lest our next-door neighbors should hear that free-born citizens dare not speak in the open.'”

an excerpt from Old Words on War Stirring a New Dispute at Berkeley, an article from the New York Times about how berkeley is censoring some fund raising collateral because it’s “too political.”

you know i always thought berkeley was about free-thinking and speech and expression and what not. i was so wrong.
