forgive me amazon, for i have sinned. in a burst of ugish feelings and self-pity and impatience, i went to barnes and noble over lunch.
wait, it gets worse.
while there i spotted the new donna tartt book and i couldn’t resist. then to make matters worse, there right by the cash register was the mark dunn’s just released welcome to higby, and well you know exactly how i felt about Ella Minnow Pea.
so amazon, i am not a strong woman. i cracked right there in barnes and noble and with a swipe of my card and the swoosh of a pen they were mine and before i could blink the three of us were safely ensconced in the warm confines of ruby’s arm(rest)s.
well, out of some mixture of sick curiousity and buyer’s remorse i decided to check out how much it would have cost me to purchase these two books on your lovely, much-revered, sacred site.
it would have been $35.70 and i would have gotten free shipping.
egads! that’s much less than the $48.78 i paid at barnes and noble.
now, amazon, i am debating should i suck up the $13.08 difference and consider it some sort of impatience fee or should i return them and return to your hallowed pages?
You know people who live in Washington State like my self where Amazon is at have to pay both shippin AND sales tax. So that is why I almost never order from Amazon. That and I worked in one of their warehouses and it was not fun.
Hmm… I don’t recall having paid sales tax… hehehe
I too gave into the impulse of B&N today. It cost me almost $15 more than Amazon would have – and that was with the stupid “discount” card!!!!!!!!
Lets boycott B&N!
I found your site one day a few months ago when looking up “I will dare” lyrics by the Mats of course. Now I’m not sure why that is your url, but either way I found you. I’ve come back a few times and figured it was time to say hello. Then I read this entry and had to laugh because while amazon is amazingly great, there is nothing like instant book gratification. Ohhhh but yes there is a price to be paid for that need. Great site! 🙂
one of the clerks at my favorite indie bookstore of choice showed me a copy of “the little friend” two days before it was supposed to go on sale. i was so distracted by that peek that i ended up buying it there, for full price, a few hours after the store opened for business on release day [last tuesday, for the record].
then i went to target a few days later and saw they had it mad discounted and nearly wept.
to top it all off, i STILL haven’t cracked it open since i have coursework to do and exams to study for. blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
