tales from the grocery store I

y’all know how much i love going to the grocery store, especially on a 90+ degree day. but this morning i woke up for a hankering for chili like you wouldn’t believe. i tried to talk myself out of it, claiming to me that it was 90+ degrees out who eats chili?

but then i said to myself, in your air conditioned abode, you can pretend it’s all fall like. football’s on, school started, you have to work at the bowling alley tomorrow night, it very well could be fall!

so i won the internal debate and headed off to the grocery store in search of chili fixin’s.

it was with much glee that i noticed the prior lake marching band was bagging groceries for a fund raiser. while i think it’s a tad funny that kids who’ve probably never bagged groceries in their life were bagging, i still love that it gets me out of one tedious grocery shopping chore. i hate the redundancy. take food off shelf, put in cart, take out of cart, put on conveyor belt, take off conveyor belt, put in bag, put bag in cart, put bags in ruby, take bags out of ruby, put bags on counter, put food on shelf.

yeah, not for me.

so i gave the doofy kid who bagged my groceries like 2 bucks and you would have thought i handed him a 20. the three of them were so thankful that once i got outside i checked to make sure i didn’t hand them a 20. i didn’t. people in prior lake must be cheap. or their houses on the lake are so expensive that they can’t afford to give the marching band doofs more than 25?.

so thus ended my grocery store adventure, or so i thought. . .

Any day’s a chili day, far as I’m concerned! Hell, it’s become sort of a tradition for me to make a ginormous cauldron of the stuff each & ev’ry July 4. ‘Course, my family & friends are all a bunch of wimps who make me tone down the spicy goodness to “mere mortal” levels, but still…

    MMMMM… Chili…

Dammit! Now ya made me hungry!

You think shopping at a grocery store is boring? Try working at one.
