Hook is on tv right now. instead of writing my personal assessment for my review tomorrow, i am wrapped up in the peter pan story. did you know peter pan is like my all time favorite fairytale of all time?
back when i was in ninth grade i used to write really wretched poetry about this much older man i had a crush on, a lot of the imagery revolved around peter pan. because clearly, i didn’t want this crush object to grow up. make sense? probably not so much. i bet if i looked real hard i could find some of that poetry. but i’m not sure if i could actually show it to anyone. i still might be too embarrassed by how bad it is.
I used to write poetry, too. A while back I found a few verses that I had tucked into the cover of a novel many years ago. I read it, intending to laugh at how wretched it was, but was actually quite surprised at the sharp, incisive tone and the smooth, stylish cadence.
It was good, and I enjoyed reading it. It reminded me of the days when I still thought I could change the world.
I just like Peter Pan because it was the first time I ever heard my name somewhere else!
this was ninth grade poetry. . . have you read anything you wrote when you were 15?
Indeed, I have. But it wasn’t the typical angst-ridden doggerel most teenagers indulge in. I waited until my twenties to start writing like shit. 🙂
