big ball of nerves

today’s the day.

i am allegedly going to buy a car. i am so nervous i could puke. i’ve never bought a car before. never had to deal with car salespeople. why am i so nervous?

oh yeah, maybe because i am about to purchase the most expensive thing i’ve ever bought in my entire life. that might be it.

wish me luck.

i can’t offer any truly practical advice as i bought the first car i test drove; but, i’d say just take your time, make sure you get what YOU (not the salesman) want and don’t forget to haggle!!

If you’re really nervous, take along someone else. And don’t let yourself be talked into anything you don’t want.

If you’re your usual questioning Jodi self, you should be well-served. Ask LOTS of questions and don’t buy unless you feel 100 percent certain.

you know, of course, that you can’t be a player if you’re rolling with anything less than 20’s, don’t you?

What works best for me is to take my mom along. We play ‘good cop/bad cop’ with the salesperson until I get what I want. I find the car I want, go get her, tell her what I want to pay, what I will pay, and then we work ’em to death until we get the right price. It sounds weird, but going with someone who will be the bad guy for you makes your experience a lot better. You don’t have to be the jerk, and they don’t hate you, so they’re more likely to give you a better deal if they know you’re related to the person (hence choosing my mom over a friend). It just works.

Remember, nothing will ever compare to Clyde. That aside, don’t worry about puking. I’ve bought 3 cars, thus far, and puked during 2 of the purchases. The third one, I just gagged a lot. You’d be better off to worry if the financial commitment DIDN’T make you feel a tad ill.
