you just play at making passes, well my heart could use some glasses

this lovely e-mail arrived today:

Hey, I happened to stumble across your site whilst randomly clicking my way across the internet, and I’ve spent the past few days reading your archives. I thought you should know…I have a HUGE crush on you. I think you’re absolutely lovely, you’re certainly brilliant, and your Superman tattoo (if it is a tattoo) is tres sexy.

Now unfortunately, I’m in California and I’m seeing someone (she thinks you’re sexy too, but that’s another story), but if I were in Minnesota, I’d chase you around the block to get you to date me.

say it with me now, “the story of jodi’s life.” boys from elsewhere love me. boys from here think i stink.

could someone kindly explain this to me?

I can’t explain it but would also like to know if you find out an explaination. I am having the same problem. I am in Texas, have a boy interested in me in South Carolina, and can’t do a damn thing about it. LIFE SUCKS! I must go cry now.

Solution: Move to California and your live can be one fat orgy.

With an occasional break to read or get a snack.

What do you think I am? A machine?

i just want to know why people use the word “whilst.”

exactly: i don’t trust people who use words like “whilst”. it’s like people who go around talking in fake british accents for no good reason. get over yourself.

my explanation: attraction close-up is very much a physical thing — let’s call the physical aspect a “necessary but not sufficient” piece of the puzzle. if someone doesn’t “do it for you” on some level physically, all their other great qualities don’t add up to squat. however, great distances allow us to bypass the initial physical thing. furthermore, it’s much harder to perceive negative qualities from a distance. the internet allows us to focus on good things and ignore shortcomings.

or, you know, maybe it’s just bad luck.

Well, I would agree with the “move to California” comment above . . but then, I am the original poster’s sweetie. 🙂

    Be well –
