if bjork’s the next to last song doesn’t break your heart, you’re probably made of stone.

It mends. It does not break. The breaking is done by the rest of the film.

I will walk bare foot through a world full of glass to better understand the next to the last song (beauty is in the eye of the beholder)

    the movie is so sad…
i just saw it for the first time about two weeks ago on DVD, and although i found it confusing and awkward at the beginning, the ending i was bawling my eyes out.

    Marco:
THE NEXT TO LAST SONG is about Selma (bjork’s character) pretending that everything is still ok. At the beginning of the movie, Selma tells her friend that she never watches the last scene (or last song) of a musical because she loved them so much she didn’t like thinking they would end, so she always left before the last song.
You should have picked up on the fact that Selma lives in a fantasy world within her mind which helps her to cope through hard times. For example, after she kills that guy, she imagines he’s still alive and everything is ok. In the Next to last song, she’s saying that it’s not the end (i.e, she’s not going to die).
it’s heartbreaking cuz she says “this isn’t the last song/there’s no violin/the choir is quiet/and noone takes a spin/it’s the next to last song/that’s all…all”

Dancer in the Dark is one of the best movies i?ve ever seen and Bjork is a great actress and very, very good and original musician. I love her.
