ahhh, it’s another leisurely morning

ahhh, it’s another leisurely morning at a chez jodi. more peanut buttery pancakes with maple syrup. it’s not gross at all (despite what some people think). let the record show though, that these are pillsbury microwave pancakes and not homemade ones. i ain’t that ambitious in the morning.

so i am perusing the iwilldare.com website, catching up on all the discussion threads (and i am comedic genius despite what rob and mickmars say.) so i am re-reading the post about the death of Gregory Corso, when i notice that i totally spelled the word croak wrong. what’s odd is that i never even doubted my spelling of that work. i didn’t even have to pause and think about the spelling. i just typed out “croke” and moved on. this reminds me of that time in 5th grade when i forgot how to spell the word “of.”

i don’t know what happened, i think i had a brain tumor. but i couldn’t for the life of me remember how to spell of. i asked mr. waugh and he laughed and wouldn’t tell me. the entire class laughed and wouldn’t tell me. the more i thought about of, the more i was sure that maybe it wasn’t even a word. my heart started racing and i began to sweat. i sat in my desk obsessing about how to spell the word “of.” i tried to look it up in the dicitionary, but it wasn’t under u. eventually joy whispered to me that it started with an O and suddenly everything clicked back into place. i think that was one of my stupidest moments ever.

Hogshead is a British word, referring to large amounts of alcohol. There are different actual amounts for different types of alcohol. Most commonly, 63 gallons of beer. I don’t know why that amount, and I don’t know why this word is used for that. Crazy Brits.
