I bought this Smart Women Desk Set for Sister #2’s birthday. I cannot remember the last time I bought a gift for someone that I so badly wanted to keep for myself. In fact, if I hadn’t already bragged how I wasn’t buying her books, I would keep this and hit up Sister #2’s wishlist. She’s a PhD student and always needs really boring books about poverty, social work, and domestic violence.

But this year I went off list. I knew it was a risk, but I thought the risk might be in her not liking the gift. Wrong. The risk is in my desire to keep the gift.

Matters were not helped along by the fact that when I received my package HANDwritten on my receipt was a very nice note that said, “Thanks for supporting our business.” Oh yeah, did I forget to mention it’s a local women-owned company? Because it is.

Could you not just die from the awesomeness?

that position has been or will soon be posted. my bossboss encouraged me to apply for it. she said i had the same chance as anyone else and i have to jump through the same hoops.

the job description wasn’t on the bossman’s desk, it was on the bossboss’ desk. i’ve decided to cool it and not obsess for a bit. she might offer me the job, or eventually she’ll have to bring it up to me, we seem to have a pretty cool work relationship so i think she’ll be upfront with me.

next time i jump to the obvious negative conclusion you have my permission to kick my ass.

last night the TTHM told me i should change the name of the website to iwillfail.com.

i hate to admit it, but he was on to something. even though sometimes i do fail, but probably not enough as UH pointed out some time ago.

power of positive thinking, right?

i just got done interviewing this guy for a project i’m working on here at work. it totally ruled. this is what i miss most about being a newspaper reporter, just being able to ask people questions and get paid for it. it was like my job to just talk to people and then write about it. god, i miss that.

tomorrow i have to go into work and do battle, again. i need to ask questions that are going to make me uncomfortable and probably my boss too. but the not knowing is eating me up, you know? i just feel really like they hung me out to dry once they let the co-worker go. i hate being confrontational. hate it!
