I biffed a pretty important and unmissable deadline on Friday. It was for an art grant. I had the stupid thing nearly done and then forgot what day it was and goddamnit I’m still pissed at myself for fucking that up. Also, I sent out a client proposal a week ago and haven’t heard anything back and am convinced it’s because I asked for too much money and I’m pretty pissed about that too.

So yeah, we here at Supergenuis HQ have been a little bit in the muck and thus some Anti-Bummers are in order.

• As you can see by the picture above, me & Walter, the best dog in the world, were reunited and it felt so good.
• Walter also brought Sister #2, Jaycie, and Maxwell with him from Portland. The Tibbles and I are ecstatic. We get to keep Maxwell & Walter all summer! Sister #2 & Jaycie are only gonna be here for a month on either end of the summer, but we’ll take what we can get.
• There’s a stream of the Bully album “Feels Like” and it is thirty-one minutes and twenty-five seconds of spectacular.
• Last week I gave my nephew Liam an email address & taught him how to email. His face glows with delight whenever he checks his email, which has has to do 827 times a day. He thinks email makes him very grown up and important and I love ever second of it. He takes responding to email very seriously.
• Did I mention that 3 of my 4 favorite Portland humans are here for a month? God it makes my heart nearly full to bursting.
• My friend Carrie recently discovered the beauty that is Jason Isbell’s music. It’s so fun having a girlfriend who loves him as much as I do.
• Wednesday I get to have dinner with my other friend Kari (aka BFK) and Atom.
• The neighbor’s Japanese Lilac Trees have blossomed so it smells good in here all the time.
• Walter is here! Walter is here! Walter is here! Walter is here!

Liam & Nolan are spending the night at Supergenius HQ. Earlier we had a waffle party which involved ridiculous amounts of whipped cream (for them) and peanut butter (for me).

After that they chose to watch Wall-E, which means that it is now my turn to control the TV. I decided we would watch some Tiny Desk Concerts, or at least 88 seconds of some Tiny Desk Concerts, because that is just the way I am.

We settled into Adele who starts off with “Someone Like You.”

“Isn’t she so pretty?” I asked my nephews.
“Eh,” Nolan who is now 11 and has long, flowing blond hair and green eyes said. “I like dark haired, dark eyed girls.”
“I get that,” I said. “No offense, but I’m not a huge fan of blondes.”
“That’s okay,” he said.
“I don’t like blondes either,” Liam piped up from the blue couch. “And I say that with all offense meant to you, Nolan.”

Pictured above is my seventeen-year-old niece, Jaycie, and the crocheted Grumpy Cat I made for her. Also, I made the blanket that’s in her lap, but it wasn’t nearly as popular as the cat.

This is the blanket I made for my sixteen-year-old nephew, Maxwell, who doesn’t allow you to post his picture on the Internet because he is a pain in the ass. So you get it modeled underneath my cat, Paco. Max wanted a blanket using the Minnesota Wild’s colors.

This is Cade, my twelve-year-old nephew, who wanted a Viking hat. He totally art directed this one, sending me three different images featuring the horns he wanted, the beard, and the hat style. He totally loved it.

Nolan, my ten-year-old nephew, is the one who came up with the bearded hat idea. He chose the colors from the yarn stash that I have. Of all the colors (and there are a lot), he went Miami Vice. I kind of dig it.

Finally my nine-year-old nephew, Liam, wanted a stuffed guinea pig and a santa hat (not pictured) for his actual guinea pig. He said, without any coaching from me, that this was his best gift. . . better than the Minecraft LEGO kits, the $100 from Grandpa, and the other things he got that I can’t remember.

Totally worth it.

People are such assholes. Like, I know this. We all know this. But it seems on the Twitters that all the people who were hooing and haaing over football today are the exact same people professing their apathy over tonight’s premiere of “Downton Abbey.”

Ohh, you’re so cool you don’t care about something. In fact you don’t care about it so much that you have to tell everyone how much you don’t care about it. You know what? Nobody asked you, turkey. Shut it. This might be my #1 social media pet peeve. The people who have to brag about their apathy and/or ignorance (we got a lot of the ignorance bragging during the Duck Dynasty hooha a few weeks ago).

I don’t give one fucking lick about football (or baseball or basketball) or any sport that doesn’t take place during the winter Olympics (and, incidentally, involve the possibility of imminent death), but I let those cheerleaders tweet without telling them the stuff they care about is stupid and pointless and so beneath me. Instead, I nap and watch reruns of “The Love Boat.”

In fact, truth be told, I kind of think it’s adorable the way the sportslovers of Twitter get all twitterpated when there are exciting sports things going on.

This is all a long way of saying, I probably need to lay off the Twitter. Also, I have decided Boring Sundays could probably do with a healthy dose of petty bitching.

This Boring Sunday, I went to Family Dinner even though I really, really didn’t want to. I didn’t want to go because Ruby’s been pretty inconsistent with her desire to start when I turn the key, and it’s really, really very cold out — so cold out the governor pretty much cancelled Monday. But there were birthdays to celebrate (Sister #3’s and Nolan’s), a dog to cuddle (Walter), and pizza to eat (sausage, onion, and jalape?o). I couldn’t miss that. And, there is the fact that because of the Ruby problems I haven’t actually left the house since last Sunday. I think. Oh no, I left the house on New Year’s Eve.

Between the holidays and the angry hermitude I have lost the ability to keep track of the passage of time.

The best part of family dinner was when Liam climbed up into my lap with the iPad and proceeded to go through Pintrest and point out all the things he wanted me to make him for next Christmas. All of them were Minecraft related. We argued about how I wanted to make a cute thing and how he wanted a cool thing. I don’t really care what he wants me to make him, I just enjoyed the fact that he will still sit in my lap. I know those days are coming to an end. Not that it’s all bummer as they age out of the cuddling stage. Because soon enough they get into the old enough to go outside in the freezing fucking cold and start your care for you stage, and that stage ain’t too shabby at all. Maxwell has become my go-to car starter. It’s pretty awesome.

Oh! I also made cookies today and got to use the fancy baking mats I got from the The Tibbles for Christmas. It was monster cookies, which are Sister #3’s favorite. I’m a good sister like that. Though Sister #2 did announce that I was a bad person because I keep forgetting to bring her The Goldfinch.

So how else was I boring today? I did some work, because I felt like it. It didn’t take very long. I ate leftover spinach and chickpea mac & cheese which was slightly less mediocre than it was last night when I made it.

And I watched 88 episodes of “The West Wing” which is my new addiction. Considering my love of political wonkery I am surprised that I waited this long.

First of all, you should know that today after “Meet the Press” (which was about Benghazzzzzzzi) I watched an episode of “The Brady Bunch” that I had never seen before. If you had asked me before this morning I would have claimed to have seen every single episode of “The Brady Bunch” so many times that I could lay out the plot within the first 60 seconds of the episode.

But today! Today I saw the episode where Great Grandma Connie (played by Florence Henderson) comes up from Kentucky to visit. Marcia & Jan immediately set to getting Great Grandma Connie to hook up with Great Grandpa Hank (played by Robert Reed). Wacky hijinks ensue until the great grands scoot off to Vegas to elope.

I was dumbfounded. Not by the episode, but that I had never seen it before. Amazing.

After that I was more boring than usual, because Sister #4 came up and I spent the whole afternoon gossiping and eating Chipotle with her. From there we skedaddled over to Sister #2’s for Family Dinner/Mother’s Day.

While there, Sister #2 gave me this bitchen pen. A Few weeks ago I was regaling Jaycie & Max with tales about how fucking awesome these pens were.

Liam made an adorable book for Sister #3, but he didn’t want us to read it and laugh at him. We came up with the scheme that if anyone laughed they had to give him $20. Here is on laughter patrol.

This is Walter begging for cheesy, wavy bacon-flavored treats. I bring him cheesy, wavy bacon treats every week because he loves them and it amuses me. Plus, he’s ridiculously cute.
