I am nearing completion of my first first day of work since 1999. It wasn’t nearly as painful as I thought it would be. That’s kind of the blessing/curse of having such an active imagination — things aren’t often as bad as you think they will be. Anyway, I managed to remember where the bathrooms are and get my network password to work. Both unqualified successes in the first day of work world.
It will be weird to be so “out” at work, especially for me who has spent a lot of time in the blog closet so to speak. But this is the kind of company who kind of embraces their employee’s odd quirks and sort of even celebrates them. This is the kind of company where my Twitter name was discovered and I had a dozen new followers before I had even finished completing my HR paperwork.
That’s kind of awesome, and a total cultural shock. It might take me awhile to get used to this kind of environment — so accepting, so free, so deliciously nerdy. So, while I kind of miss my mid-afternoon nap, I think working here is going to be pretty rad.
Well, I was informed today that our company will henceforth be following the AP style guide, which means NO SERIAL COMMA.
Frankly, I’m surprised I didn’t quit on the spot. But I am glad your day was better than mine.
