I saw this over at Bookshelves of Doom and couldn’t resist.
1. One book that changed your life?
A Prayer For Owen Meany by John Irving. I read it when I was 18 and until then I had no idea about the beauty of language and storytelling and the effect it could have on me.
2. One book you have read more than once?
There are actually a lot I’ve read more than once. But I’ll pick Written on the Body by Jeanette Winterson. I think it’s the most romantic book ever written.
3. One book you would want on a desert island?
Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. I would finally have plenty of time to figure out what in the hell it’s about.
4. One book that made you laugh?
King Dork by Frank Portman. I would laugh so much and so often sometimes I just had to put it down to laugh.
D. One book that made you cry?
Gah, lots of them have made me cry. But I’ll go with a surprising one, Lorna Landvik’s Patty Jane’s House of Curl. I’m not giving away anything by saying this, but when one of the sisters dies, I lose it. I’m a little sensitive when it comes to sister scenes.
6. One book you wish had been written?
My Sister’s Continent by Gina Frangello.
UPDATE: Oh man, I totally read that question wrong. I thought it said “One book you wish you had written.” Not had been written. I wish I had written My Sister’s Continent. It’s already been written and quite wonderfully I might add. Sister #2 hasn’t been able to stop raving about it for the past two weeks.
One book I wish had been written? That’s a toughie. I guess the book by me.
7. One book you wish had never been written?
The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks. It trumps the Shitty, Shitty Secret Life of Bees as the crappiest book I’ve read in a good long while.
8. One book you are currently reading?
The Accidental by Ali Smith.
9. One book you have been meaning to read?
The short stories of Dorothy Parker. Someone told me I write like her, and I got the book for my birthday, I just haven’t made time for it.
Funny, right? I’m usually so anti-meme, but I liked this one.
