i could cry

today, i got back my story “Branches” from my writing teacher at the loft. here’s how he started his little feedback letter:
I’m very impressed with the two stories you turned in for class this spring. You’re a great writer, and I’d urge you to stick with it. In both stories, you display a talent for developing lifelike characters and putting them into interesting situations that force them to confront some truth about themselves. If that’s too much of a generalization, let me put it another way: You get it. You know how to write powerful, beautiful, subtle short stories. And you know how to write humor, which isn’t easy. As Stuart Dybek said, “I love humor and would trade almost any other aspect of a story for it. . . I equate it strongly with the single thing I am most after: life on the page.”

you could not beat the smile off my face, even if you tried.

my giddiness cannot be expressed. i feel so validated.

yay me!

That’s so fantastic! Nothing most of the rest of us didn’t already know, though! 😉 Keep writing and I promise I’ll buy your first book if you’ll autograph it for me. 🙂

    First, a teacher’s praise.

    Next, the nation.

You are a vision of beauty, talent and fortitude. Thank you for allowing us to bask in your greatness, if only but afar.
