rising to the top

a few weeks ago jeff wrote about making meatloaf with his wife. i’ve been craving meatloaf ever since. so tonight, i decided to give it a try with some turkey.

as i was crumbling up the bread for the loaf of meat, i got to thinking about the crusts.

when i was a kid my dad always told me to eat my crusts, it was the best part of the bread. he told me that’s where all the nutrients are and if you don’t eat the crust you won’t get the vitamins you need. it worked, and i’ve been a crust eater ever since. but as i was crumbling the bread i thought, “hey, that can’t be true.” because really do all the nutrients rise to the top during baking?

suckered again.

I had meatloaf for dinner last night, coincidentally enough. It was quite tasty (and probably a week’s worth of food).

I never bought that story about the crust being the best part of the bread, though.
