ugh. i’ve just had another ugly bee incident. this one was just one of those tiny, wiley bees that like to sneak under your hair and sting you until you almost die.
this little bee friend was not cute at all. and he landed on my keyboard.
after several high-pitched WHOA! WHOA! WHOAS! escaped from my lips, i grabbed the camera and took some pictures. then mr. bee decided it was a good idea to fly right at me and land on my neck. at that point i freaked out and screamed like a little girl. i brushed it repeatedly from my neck and then ran into the livingroom to regain my composure.
surprisingly it didn’t take long. i ran into the kitchen and grabbed the most noxious substance i could find. Windex. i quickly windexed the bee into submission and then smooshed him with a doc marten.
it was terrifying. but i survived. we can all rest easy tonight.
Um, Jodi? That was NOT a bee. Bees have fuzzy parts that pick up pollen, therby helping to spread that flower lovin’ whilst they collect nectar. What you had was a wasp, the lawyers of the flying insect world; They feast on the debris of the world and serve no useful purpose other than to make our lives hell.
While your nectar-craving bee has the ability to sting just once (ripping off it’s lower abdomen and fatally wounding itself in the process) the defecate-feasting wasp can sting many, MANY times with ease, and often does for no other reason than to amuse itself.
Also, make sure you use that windex to clean the shoe you smooshed it with and the area in which it was smooshed; When smooshed, the wasp lets off a pheremone that signals other wasps in the immediate area to come quick and sting anything nearby.
Wasps suck.
