I am in love with David Gates, not to be confused with the other David Gates (though the song ‘Diary’ makes me laugh and laugh). I am so in love with David Gates that all I want to talk about is the short stories of David Gates. And I want to say David Gates over and over again because it’s got a lot of good sounds in it.

This afternoon I decided that if I could choose to write like anyone other than me it would be the baby of David Gates and Mary Gaitskill. That baby would probably be the best writer ever.
