i don’t talk politics very often here on iwilldare.com. it’s not because i’m unpolitical, it’s not because i don’t care, it’s because i am so passionate about my beliefs that i often can’t seem to talk about them in a logical manner that makes sense to people who do not live inside my head.
if you ever want to get me worked up just mention the patriot act (which makes me so damn angry i cannot even see straight), homosexual marriage (the fact that this is even an issue, that some think we need a fucking constitutional amendment to stop someone displaying love, makes me embarassed to live in this country and the sanctity of marriage, really? are you kidding me?), or even the NEA (a pet issue of mine since college). it doesn’t take too much to make the raving liberal in me rise up and spew forth in a passionate blur that has frightened some people i know.
plus, like many things that we hold so close to our hearts, it’s something that’s just hard to talk about– such a personal matter.
yesterday, i was absolutely giddy with the idea of voting today.
“i love the democratic process!” i declared to quiet e-mail helper, maria, and chicken little. “i just can’t wait to vote.” then i did a little dance of freedom while they laughed at my melodramatic partioticness.
even after the debacle of the 2000 election and the hell that these past four years have been, i still believe so much in our process, in this god-damned country that i am moved to tears. yes, voting makes me cry. just writing about voting and this country, and thinking about how it all started and the declaration of independence, and federalist five and the first amendment, my eyes well up and run over just typing the words.
so, darling ones, make sure you rock your vote. never before has it been more important to voice your opinion and exercise this very beautiful, fundamental right of yours.
BAM! Voted. In CA they give us a sticker.
I don’t care who gets elected
I don’t care who gets to find out
I don’t care who gets elected
Til I find me a one (to love)
I voted at 6:02am your time. The 13th person to do so.
I’m sorry, though; My capitalistic, conservative, loathing-both-traditional parties side spoke out loudly and strongly. If you see Nader got .1% of the vote, I was party to that.
If you get a sticker you can go sign up for Wendy’s contest @ http://www.twodolla.org!
But no matter what you do, go vote! It is the small bit of responsiblity you can take to guarantee your rights in the future!
It’s all over now but the crying and that has just begun.
