huh. tom robbins was always the type of author i felt like i was supposed to like, but couldn’t quite like. maybe that’s because the first (and last) tom robbins book i tried to read was Even Cowgirls Get the Blues.

if you ever want to give him a second chance, i’d pick up Still-Life with Woodpecker. i adored it.

still life with woodpecker made me fall in love with tom. jitterbug perfume made me want to have his children. fierce invalids home from hot climates was like renewing our vows.

i’ve loved everything i’ve read except for cowgirls which i couldn’t finish. i keep saying i’ll go back and try, but my heart’s not in it.

Tom Robbins has always been one of those authors that are highly thought of in some circles, but I just couldn’t get him to work in mine. Everyone was still hung up on Ginsberg and Kerouac when I was reading and enjoying Robbins. Skinny Legs was a fine novel, I’ll say that. Had the opportunity to sort of ‘camp out’ near his place once hoping to catch a glimpse of him. A Girl talked me into it. I liked her, what can I say? Still Life is an excellent one as well…still trying to figure out the importance (if any) of Drew Barrymore (isn’t she DREAMY?) reading Still Life @ the cafe in 50 First Dates. any clues???
