another political brouhaha

Republicans decry service as partisan reports the Strib. After last night’s political rally err, memorial Republicans must be freaking out. I mean, really the DFL got like a 3 hour, primetime commercial free! And really i don’t blame them for being a bit upset. But, i think if the shoe were on the other foot the Republicans would have done the exact same thing.

what i’m curious to see is if they get any equal air time, because of campaigning laws and all that.

this is going to be a brouhaha along the lines (but one a much smaller scale) of the florida kaffafel during the last election. Already there are lawsuits concerning absentee ballots and whatnot with wellstone’s name.

really, it’s all just a damn shame. because wellstone was a principled, decent, honest man and i bet even he would be sort of ashamed and probably angry over what’s happening in the wake of his sudden death.

I think that the 3 hour rally will wind up hurting the Dems more than it will help. The biggest problem that Norm Coleman faced against Modale was the taboo against getting political so soon after Wellstone’s death. The Dems broke that taboo first.

If Coleman wins the Dems will have themselves to thank…

i think wellstone would be appalled and quite upset. though i’m not a resident of mn, i know he was a man of very strong principles who would not appreciate the politicizing of death.

I think Wellstone would be appalled too. In a much more contentious race, even when it was known that his wife was going to take the seat if he won posthumously, Mel Carnahan’s funeral wasn’t political at all, especially in comparison to what’s been happening in MN. Sen. John Heinz didn’t die during an election season, but there was not a single political word said at his funeral. (Lots of lauding of his accomplishments, but in a broad “public servant” sense, not in a ra ra he was a good Republican way.) It’s all very sad.

I would like to be glad to see that Wellstone’s party and supporters just didn’t give up after his death. I mean what were people expecting. Oh it is so political… well it is politics.

What is worse having a bit of a political hoopla at a funeral for a politician or planning a war for oil and votes and running on that for MONTHS.
