my best friend, kari, experienced the ultimate misfortune by being born the day before my birthday.

yes, that makes today her birthday.

she wanted a weedwacker, but i bought her some gardening supplies and beautiful stargazer lilies. i had great intentions of having this wonderful post about how great she is sitting here all day.

but well, sometimes life gets in the way. and really, after the stunt she pulled today, she’s lucky i still call her a friend. she’s up to some sort of trickery with my birthday tomorrow.

a little backstory. . . things in softwareland have been creepy and tense as of late. today we had scheduled a 2-hour long company meeting. tensions were high and most everyone was sure that heads were gonna roll.

so when i wheeled into work uberearly this morning. i was more than a little bit shocked to see my computer on. then, i looked over and there was a message on my phone.

i thought i was a goner.

luckily, i’m not. it was all kari acting out some sort of evil plan. hrmph!

so yes, today is the day we celebrated her birth. if i were a rich woman, i’d have sent kari’s mom some flowers to say thank you for giving birth to and raising such a fine woman.

i wish you could all meet kari. she’s so super rad. kari’s everything i’m not, and sometimes it amazes me that she likes me at all. she’s organized, logical, rational. . . yeah, i’m not so sure why she puts up with me either.

and while it might sound like a cliche, she’s one of the most kind and generous people i know. she would have had the title as the most kind and generous, but that was snatched away from her today when flowers arrived for kari from jessica.

wouldn’t be so strange, but jess is away on her honeymoon. in the midst of planning and worrying about her wedding, jess sent kari flowers. how rad is that?

kari was surprised– which is amazing. clearly she doesn’t realize how swanky she is. this was supposed to be much more eloquent and sappy, but i forget all the stuff i wanted to say.
