godmothers

carrie here has been asked to be a godmother. she writes an interesting post about not being catholic and being a godmother for a child that will be raised catholic. it got me to thinking about when sister #2 asked me to be jaycie’s godmother. i, of course, said yes. but i told her i wasn’t too keen on the whole godmother title. instead i would prefer if they called me “the female in charge of jaycie’s spiritual well-being.” i liked the sound of spiritual well-being keeper. instead they just call be aunt bad lady.

Personally, I would prefer “Head heretic in charge of dispelling dogma” but I think the church would object — loudly.

my aunt just asked me to be her sons godmother and i accepted, i felt so honored to have been asked that i did ot know what to say, what did you do when you were asked to be a godmother? i stood speechless on the phone for like almost 1 minute until my aunt asked me if i was still there. i was so happy, and could not have been much happier. i am going to the ceremony in a couple of weeks so i can be my cousins godmother.it is a lot of responsibility and i can not beleive she is giving it all to me. i am so proud of you, as well as myself. i am so happy iwas givin this opportunity. i am not catholic and i think my aunt is and i do not know how this is really going to go. most of her side of the family is catholic and i am not, well i have to go so have a nice time ba bye.

    Hi!

I’m still reeling over being asked by my brother and sis in law to be one of my baby niece’s godmothers (my sis in law’s youngest sister has been asked to be the other one!) that I don’t think its completely sunk in yet! Every time I think about it I get tears in my eyes!

The ceremony (my sis in law and her family is Catholic while “our” family is Protestant) will take place two weeks from Sunday (10/10, which WOULD have been my brother and mine maternal grandparent’s 75th wedding anniversary as well!)in Boston!
