The semi-annual book reorg of 2008

Since today is my last day with the minions kidlings, I thought it was high time for us to tackle the semi-annual book reorganization. It has not been fun or pretty.

However I am looking forward to having a sweet spot to put the candy dish I bought myself for my birthday.

What sort of candies do you envision in yon vessel?

    Starburst.

You are an inspiration, Jodi. Since we have moved and my wife has commandeered a bookcase for her schoolbooks, I have run out of bookshelf space myself and need to reorganize my books.

That’s an amazing candy dish, you can never have enough Starburst stashes.

Even better, I’ve managed to purge SEVEN books from the fiction stash thus far. SEVEN. That astounds me.

Also, I got the candy dish for $4 at goodwill.

Once it’s shelved, I have an unholy attraction to my fiction collection, but have been clearing out memoirs and other non-fiction.

My life became much easier when I stopped reading at least part of everything sent my way. Somehow I’ve ended up getting way too many chick lit and conspiracy theory books… Now I just ad them to the boxes of free books for friends and family (and eventually, Goodwill).

You know what’s sad? Is that I have an unholy connection to a few chicklit books — Bridget Jones, because I remember how important it felt when I read it at 24, and Little Altars Everywhere/Ya Ya Sisterhood, mostly because my grammu gave me the first book many, many years ago.

I’m purging a lot of fiction — books I didn’t particularly love, ones that have no meaning to me, ones that I can’t remember the plot to.

I actually have a Starburst stash in the kitchen. Right now it has a regular assortment pack and a “Baja California” assortment.

And two packs of Skittles, one regular and one tropical.
