wrecked

tonight i watched Hotel Rwanda. it’s been sitting here on the counter for over a week. i’ve only been in the mood of High Fidelity lately. but tonight i needed something, else.

This movie kicked me right in the gut. i was sobbing 20 minutes into it. the story of the Tutsi genocide in Rwanda was, well, there are just no words for genocide. it made me sick and sad and so utterly pointless. watching this movie emptied me. took everthing out of me, most it flowing through my eyes and nose. it’s disturbing and powerful. it will kick you in the ass and the head.

as i was watching the closing credits i tried to think of other movies that had made me sob so uncontrollably. and the only ones i could think of were Schindler’s List and Dancer in the Dark.

Yep, Hotel Rwanda will do that to you. Haven’t seen The Pianist yet, huh?

We just rented that but haven’t gotten to it yet. For that very reason – I expect it to totally rip me up and I have to be ready for that. I can vouch for the Pianist too. But perhaps you should wait on that – maybe do a little something more happy. I know – Blues Brothers! 😉

‘Wit’ with Emma Thompson does that to me. I had to actually stop it for awhile I was getting so upset.
