i’ve been meaning to phone you but from minnesota

the windchill factor is -31 this morning. i’m wearing more clothes than even i thought possible. i’m also electric. everytime i move my arms the static electricity crackles from my sweatshirt and sweater pulling away from each other. it’s actually a lot cooler than i’m making it out to be.

Oh, yeah? And all you had to do was walk ten feet to your truck. You certainly don’t have to walk into the wind through the remnants of the genetically-modified soybeans for a mile to GET somewhere like SOME of us do… The INSIDE of my nose actually froze. And my eyelashes are permanently maybelline. Thank goodness it’ll be colder next week.

you need a good scarf. and it’s like 20 feet to my truck.

I’m just thankful I no longer have to stand and wait for a bus downtown. I go into the garage, get in the car, drive to work and park right in front of the building.

In the spirit of the -20 windchill, I’m wearing a static-y sweater today, too. It’s red.

Plus I decided to be a nice mom today and drive my kids to school for once.

The technology is called a “koatsu”. Basicly, you get an electric heater, attach it to the underside of (or put it under) a 5’x 5′ wooden table (2 1/2 – 3 feet off the ground), cover the table with a heavy blanket/quilt so that it encloses the table on all 4 sides. Set the heater on low and in a few minutes, you’ve made a mini-oven, suitable for sitting at Japanese-style; Slip on a sweatshirt, tuck your legs underneath and have yourself a good read. You can put your hands under if they get cold and have another big book holding the book your reading open.

We here in MN are so tough, our celebrations revolve around a building made of ice reminding us that our flesh will freeze in 2 minutes.

Are you going to see the Ice palace?

Well now an entire state full of naked sleeprs raises topics of a whole new nature. I must ponder this.

Ok Jodi. You can put your cold lil feet on me till you’re warm but I’m claiming some unnamed favor for a future date.
