not quite a wrong number

the phone rang at 8:16 a.m. i was convinced someone was dead or it was a telemarketer. i mean, really, my phone never rings that early. so of course, fearing the worst, i pick it up.

“hello,” i said.
there was a pause and i thought ‘ah, telemarketer.’
then a tentative, “hello.”

it was the TTHM.

so then i went back to thinking, someone’s dead.

“hi,” i said.
“how are you?” he asked.
“umm, fine.”
“good.”
“err, why are you calling so early?”
“i didn’t mean to call you. i’m just so used to dialing your number that i punched you in.”
“oh, ok.”
“it is early,” he said. “go back to bed.”
“actually, i’m on my way to work.”
“ok, go to work.”
“have a good day!” i said.

then i laughed all the way here.

imagine how i feel…being a morning person, usually my conversation is at its most sparkling before 8, though i think this isn’t quite a good example…sigh.

in your defense i think i took you by surprise and well, you know i’m not so good with the speaking before 10 a.m.

oh…and was that a heinous laugh or merely a derisive one? I’m beginning to feel like I fell off my barstool or something.
