peanut sitting

i had to babysit cade, the peanut, this morning. it’s the first time, i do believe, i’ve ever had to babysit him. it’s been quite some time (well, 3 years since max) since i’ve babysat a 2-year-old (or almost two year old, cade’ll be 2 on the 14th).

the peanut kicked my ass. i forgot about short the 2-year-old attention span is, and how old i am. i was alone with him for an hour and here’s the fun stuff he did:
pounded on the back door crying for mama and daddy.
danced to the wiggles
sang to the wiggles
pulled all the books out of aunt jodi’s bag and pile them in her lap
ate a piece of donut of undetermined age
put purse on aunt jodi’s lap
zippped the purse
unzipped the purse
zippped the purse
unzipped the purse
zipped the purse
took purse off jodi’s lap and put it on the floor
zippped the purse
unzipped the purse
zippped the purse
unzipped the purse
zippped the purse
unzipped the purse
zippped the purse
unzipped the purse
zippped the purse
unzipped the purse
zippped the purse
pulled the arms off mr. potato head and put them where his eyes should be
raced around kitchen and living room with the red lego truck
danced to the wiggles
pounded in that case thing with the glass beads in it to make tons of noise
pulled all the books out of the toybox and put them on aunt jodi’s lap
pulled books off aunt jodi’s lap and put them on the table
pulled books off the table and put them back in the toybox
discovered purse under the coffee table
unzipped the purse
zippped the purse
unzipped the purse
zippped the purse
unzipped the purse
zippped the purse
unzipped the purse
zippped the purse
unzipped the purse
zippped the purse
unzipped the purse
zippped the purse
sang along with the wiggles
went into the kitchen and pointed at snack cupboard
asked “what’s that?” while pointing at the ceiling
asked “what’s that?” while pointing at the refrigerator
asked “what’s that?” while pointing at the ceiling
asked “what’s that?” while pointing at the the light
asked “what’s that?” while pointing at a box of cereal
asked “what’s that?” while pointing at the ceiling
asked “what’s that?” while pointing at the out the patio door
asked “what’s that?” while pointing at his parents

it’s the most fun i’ve had in many, many weeks.

I spent the weekend with a nine month old recently. We mostly banged our heads together. She really seemed to like that. (In hindsight, I should’ve gotten a waiver.)
