Am so late to the party. I can’t find any post online that will tell me who they think pushed Lotto. I’m guessing the theater director? Mathilda’s childhood was a recipe for a personality disorder and the way she conducted herself does track. I’m surprised the mask didn’t slip, but maybe it did and Lotto didn’t notice.
I appreciate the commentary on how one can never truly fully know another. But damn give me decades with someone and I sure will know them… It’s almost willful that Lotto didn’t get her number and maybe that’s purposeful commentary on men and marriage.
The thing that really got my heartstrings was the Atonement style misunderstanding that Mathilda cheated on him during their marriage. If he did kill himself over this, the betrayal, with the deep rooted abandonment issues, that is legitimately very sad
