Rat Girl was the most beautifully written book I read in 2010. I envy Hersh’s prose.

For sure. The Throwing Muses were absolutely great…especially live, if only to watch Kristin onstage. She had this incredibly unique presence. An old co-worker opened for them years back in the late 80s down at First Avenue, and could only rave about how nice the lot of them were to her as an aspiring singer/songwriter. Another friend of mine was a good friend of hers for a while, and I presume he still is being the indie music maven he still is out in Seattle.

I’ve been meaning to pick up this book for some time. If you can, try to ferret out some of the TMs early recordings on 4AD records (not so much the later Sire stuff which was less quirky and original). Her solo stuff is also great.
