Beverly Cleary was my first favourite author as well. My 1st grade teacher read most of her books to us in class and made me yearn for more. Judy Blume helped us through the tough parts of growing up (especially Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret) but Beverly Cleary made childhood seem easier. I am an only child, so Clearys books worked for me as a window into this sibling relationship (and rivalry) that I had very little knowledge of.

Thanks for this piece Jodi!
