I’d worn them for so many years that it was hard to imagine looking at myself in the mirror and not seeing them.

It didn’t take very long to get used to it, though. Somehow it just wasn’t the big deal that I thought it was going to be. Most things are like that, I find. You worry and worry about it for so long, and then you do it and then wonder why you were so worried about it in the first place.
