Job hunting is like looking for someone to go home with at a bar. You throw your resume (aka hints, winks, glances) at the ones you like best. You work your way down the list from best to worst, hoping that one of the people near the top of your mental lists decides to come over and sit and talk to you, buy you a drink, etc.

Then comes the "interview." You drop hints; some veiled, some not so veiled. If they like what they see and hear, they will take you up on your offer and hire you. If not, it's back to the winks and glances.

I don't like the interview process any more than the next guy, but at the same time, I don't sweat it. I just act as much like myself as I do any day, although I do tend throw in some hard-charging, responsible, motivated and self-driven for good measure. I figure I'd rather be me and interview honestly and not get 100 jobs than to get the first one I interview for and find out the people I work for and/or with are a bunch of asshats who make me want to rip my hair out and disembowel myself.

That's my two cents.

Job interviews are like sex. The first time may be embarrasing, painful and unfulfilling but the more you do it the better you will be. I would interview for jobs that you may not even want just to get more interview experience - finding out what types of questions people ask, what you want to ask them (hint - don't ask about compensation) how they view your resume, etc. That way when the perfect job comes around you will be ready for it.

That was very much me for the last three years. Once I hit the second year mark at my job, I knew I had to go. Scoring interviews is the toughest part. In the last year before I got my new job, I had every kind of interview imaginable, but it was all worth it. Good luck with your process.
