Little known fact about Stu Dybek: in the winter of 1993, he broke his leg while sledding. Cue Ethan Frome jokes galore... I got my degree from WMU--English major with an emphasis in Creative Writing. I was signed up to take a class from him at one point, a class I was really excited about, and then they decided to give us an adjunct instead, and she SUCKED (I think the reasoning was that Dybek was too valuable a resource to spend on undergrads and can I say that I really hate that attitude?). That's the point at which I started to become really disillusioned with formal creative writing programs. I never actually met Dybek, but I'm sure I passed him in the hall lots of times.
