It’s rare when a bride wants an actual opinion. I truly believe this.

If she really seems unsure of something, she might want a real opinion, but you’re stil walking through a minefield when giving one.

I’m glad I’m older and don’t care anymore about having the ‘perfect’ day. Hell, I probably won’t know what my maid of honor is wearing until she shows up… and I couldn’t care less.

She asks your opinion for only two possible reasons. She really wants to know your opinion or she wants validation from you because she’s insecure about herself and her choices. You’re the older sister, therefore wiser and having more life-experience.

When asked for your opinion, is it not reasonable to respond by asking what your sister wants. Do you want my opinion or are you looking for validation? I think that’s a reasonable question.

If she says she really wants your opinion. I might confirm that by saying, if that’s so, then you’re not allowed to be upset with me because my opinion differs from yours or anyone else’s. I have a right to my own opinions regardless of how groundless you think they may be. Be careful what you ask for, and all that.

Or, if she’s just looking for validation then, you know, just agree with everything in the smarmiest, used-car salesman way possible.
