Writing groups are tricky. We started one after my class this time last year and it lasted a round of emails and promises on our mothers’ graves that we’d “do this thing.” The end. Not one meeting.

Some people write, some people need company. That’s not to say yours won’t be the stellar Stephen-King-what’s-her-Joy-Luck-Club-writing-group-cum-jazz-combo-or-what-have-you, but you need to tell yourself you’ll do this for yourself regardless of what happens. At the end of the day, you are your own crutch; which is to say, you stand on your own two feet.
