"3k under the least I would take" - did your boss know that before your review, and did you back it up with the promise of action if it wasn't met? I've done the ultimatum thing, and a wise person told me that I had to tell them up front what I wanted and what would happen if I didn't get it AND be willing to follow through on the threat. Thankfully, it worked and I got what I wanted and didn't have to leave.

If you didn't give your boss your conditions beforehand, I would go back and talk to him, explain your expectations and ask if he views those as reasonable, ask if there's any way to make those happen, and what you need to do to get there. Then, give him plenty of warning about your intentions. Most boss's don't react kindly to threats, especially ones that put them in corners. If you're rational and give him time to work, he'll probably be much more understanding and willing to go to bat for you.

Sorry this was so long, but I've been in that spot before. If you wanna talk about it, feel free to e-mail me!

It sounds like you are much appreciated (the promotion and raise), but I know it's disappointing to not make what you're worth.

I hope that you are at least making enough money to afford what you need.

In our society, money is such a symbol. It's like our household incomes somehow reflect on how valuable we are. And it's really hard to not get caught up in that. I mean, listen to me: "It's disappointing to not make what you're worth." The wording is all wrong, because your worth has nothing to do with your pay level.

I hold your skills in high esteem. You are gold. I hope your employers know that you are gold.

Okay, I might sound like a sunshiny idiot, but I'm going to hit "bring it" anyway, because I want you to know how good your readers think you are. :)
