I just wrote a column on it for Fiction Forum. If you’re reading it to people you know, though, make sure they understand what it means to be a strategic reader. You can give someone constructive criticism without breaking their spirit.

Bottom line, it’s one of the Four Agreements — Don’ t Take Anything Personally. That means the good or the bad. Just be true to yourself. If there’s one thing you know, it’s how a loyal readership will adapt to YOUR storytelling. Don’t shy from that.

also, try reading the book “writing down the bones” by natalie goldberg (i think that’s her name). an excellent motivator.
