I’ve lost more friends and mentors to layoffs than I’d like to remember. I know what you’re going through, and the best thing I can suggest is to embrace your grief. It’s real, and won’t go away by wishing it. Go through your mourning process, take some time off if you need to. I took a couple days off when my favorite project manager got axed, and felt much better than the time before when I lost my manager. I wish there was an easy way to go through it, but there isn’t.
