pain falling on my shoes

ahh, i think movable type and i have formed a sort of truce. i might just get it before the end of the weekend. but i can’t make any promises.

my armpit cancer seems to be back. i’m not sure what the deal is, but my left armpit itches all the time. since i’ve decided it’s cancer i keep poking at it trying to determine if there is a cancerous tumor floating about under the skin, so now it hurts.

i just can’t seem to understand why one armpit can itch and the other one doesn’t. is it possible for one armpit to be allergic to deoderant and not the other?

I think I have that same armpit cancer. My left armpit itches all the time, but I don’t poke it with sharp stuff. Maybe we’re related…

i don’t poke with sharp things either, just my fingers.

I too have had pain in my left armpit – although I think it to be a bit more serious than stated here. I have been to the doctor twice already, first a quick no brainer diagnostics and out the door with and antibiotic, Keflex with generic fill 3 times a day. But the pain slowly started going over to my right armpit and both were hurting severly, I couldn’t raise my arms above my head, barely slept and it felt like posion oak in my armpits, constantly irretated. So after one week on antibiotics I went back to the doctor, my headaches had persisted and I felt horrible all the time, in pain, tired and not really into anything, guess that can be convereted to “trouble concentrating”. The doctor agreed that both armpits were affected now and ordered some blood work, also recieved a painkiller for the severity of the pain, Darvoset generic fill, 2 to 3 times a day as needed. Now everything was looking up, the pain started to fade in he left armpit and seemed to be only in the right side, and as I finished the pain killers the right arm seemed to be getting better as well. Now three days off Darvoset and one week off Keflex the pain has returned to the LEFT side with irratation lasting all day, again like poison oak. The red dots/irrated glands at the surface are back and I’m losing motion in the arm again, trouble lifting my arm up, and today awoke to another painfull headache. I must return to the doctor and get a second opinion as well as request to see the dermatologist. Any information you have on this would be great. I am a 29 year old active male. Bankers hours and active lifestyle, smoking cigs only at night and drinking only on the weekends. Help me get better!?!??!!!?

I have just started getting pain in my left armpit. Feels itchy sometimes, other times just sharp pains. I’ve looked on the internet and I see Arm Pit pain related to everything from MS, HIV, Breast Cancer and due to caffeine. I’ll cut out the caffeine and see how that goes. YIKES! Think “positive” right? Will do.

i am also experiencing pain in my armpits. Yes both of them and also have swellness in my right one. Sometimes it gets so cad that i can’t even put my arms down. i am so scared. i hope it’s nothing serious.Hopefully it’s just swellness of glands and will go away by itself. But what if it doesn’t?

What is the deal!!You people have the same symptons that I do. The doc I went to today said I had stress and it was coming out of my armpit. I however am worried. It hurts to keep my arm down and sleeping just doesn’t happen. Have any of you gone back to the doc for a folow-up. Please advise

Hello guys, i’m afraid i dont have any advice as i’m feeling the same as you do and i’m afraid that if i go to the doctor, he/she is gonna tell me i’ve got some horrid disease-i just cant deal with that. Having read your entries i do hope it is stress.

If you have swelling in your arm pit, it could be your lymph nodes. Swollen lymph nodes can be caused by a multitude of mild disorders and a few serious ones. It’s a good idea to see a doctor if you haven’t already been.

Those in the just itchy category (with no swelling or rashes) are prob’ly just itchy.

Gosh! A lot of people seem to have this pain in the armpit thing going on. My pain started in my left shoulder due to playing the viola. It’s in my shoulder blade and my left armpit too. It seems to get a little better when I don’t drink caffeine. I’m now going to p.t. for my shoulder and had a breast exam a month ago. Doctor also checked under my arm and didn’t feel anything. I plan on watching it for a month or 2 and going back if it isn’t better. However, it DOES come and go. Weird, huh? Anyone with the same experience?

  10. Crystal 30.Mar.03 at 6:04 pm

I also have the pain and it radiates down my right side from my armpit. I also have a fibroadenoma in my right breast which is just a benign lump that is hereditary. I think my pain is just radiating from that. Not sure. Scared though. I had a skin cancer removed in December but it had not spread. Now I’m paranoid as to whether it is possible for a cancer to “jump” to the lymph nodes rather than spreading????

I too am experience pain in my armpit and the back of my arm. I went to the doctor and she told me to stop using deodarant for a while.

I’ve been, over the course of a few months, have been feeling a little bump forming in the under skin of my armpit. A few weeks ago my pit started itching like crazy. I think it might have something to do with my deororant, but whats the bump? Its completly under the skin, and dosn’t hurt, just is bothersom when touched. I’m concerned. If someone could tell me whats going on, that would be really helpful. You can email me at

Hi Ya all! I have been having problems with my armpits too! This month before my cycle I had burning in both breasts and also my armpits. My left armpit has a swelling on it and it hurts to put my arm down sometimes. The discomfort comes and goes. Sometimes I either get a feeling like a pinch or an ache in the left armpit. I also have fibrocystic breast disease. I am a 46 year old lady and I am hoping and praying that I don’t have cancer. Does anyone ever respond back and give an update on their original post. I would like to know how things have turned out for you all! Best regards, Mary Lewis

Hi itchy pits! I was searching the web for anything related to itchy armpits and came across this site. It started a couple of days ago and hasn’t let up. My left arm pit itches all the time. The only relief is when I don’t wear a shirt. I also have high sensitivity on the left shoulder blade. It feels like a sunburn sensation to the touch. My right side feels fine. I’m scheduled to go see a doctor next week, but I’m not expecting much, the usual office call charge and a perscription that probably won’t do any good. I had thoughts that it might be due to stress, under alot of it lately. Nothing has really changed recently that would be suspect to this condition.

  15. chris 03.Jun.03 at 2:39 pm

Oh my gosh this is too wierd – just stumbled on this site here and I am having problems. I have had a lymph node in my left armpit that has been larger than normal for more than ten years now and drs. say it’s nothing but it hurts sometimes. Right now it’s bad – my pain is in the armpit and the shoulder and radiates to the back and stuff – feels burny sometimes and it goes into the chestwall too – I am perimenopausal so that could be part of it but I am scared to death it is cancer. No other symptoms though thank God.

Anyone got any advice? I go to the dr. next week. I have been to breast specialists and all kinds of things before but they never really found anything. I get mammos every year in January.

  16. jerrie 04.Jun.03 at 4:09 pm

I’ve been to the doctor and I had a physical and they told me I was fine. My armpit situation just started so I’m not afraid I just want to know what anyone else has experienced.

I too have been having pain in my armpit and also in my spleen. Leukemia and Lymphoma (cancers) usually involve swelling of the spleen and/or lymph glands, but not always. I intend to have a biopsy of my lymph glands to look for cancer. My general practioner does not want to send me to an oncologist but I am going over his head and straight to the insurance company. My dad passed away fron luekemic lymphoma. He had gone to the ER 3 times and was even kept over the weekend once but no one ever ran any tests. They finally did a simple biopsy and he lived only 45 days after the diagnosis. If you have a family history of cancer GET A BIOPSY or at least a blood test. Elevated white cell counts are a sign of infection.
This is your body and your life.
I intend to take care of mine with or without my general practioners blessings!

I have been having slight pain in my left armpit, on and off for at least 3 yrs., as well as it being swollen most of the time. I went to a specialist and she suggested that it is just
breast tissue sliding to that area, especially being that I have large breasts. I don’t really experience any excessive itching, but I am
    still concerned. Any advice?

  19. Lumpy 20.Jun.03 at 10:31 am

I have what appears to be swollen lymph nodes under my pits. I just came off of 2 weeks of Augmentum so I shouldn’t have an infection. Cancer runs in the family and my mother has lymphoma. My doc took blood test today – but from what the nurse said, he’s looking for diabetes and viruses. My pits are tender and the hinges of my arms hurt as well. I’m constantly feeling under the weather, fatigued (though I can’t sleep for more than 4 hrs at a time), and often run a fever of a 100. Any ideas?

  20. pits 01.Jul.03 at 10:56 am

Well I guess I can join your club. I woke up yesterday and my left armpit was really sore and swollen, for no apparent reason. And also hurt even more when I applied pressure. Sometimes the pain flows to my breast and peck area.
Now I’m on day two and wondering what the deal is with all these people experiencing left pit pain.
    I’m 31yrs and a mother 2 children 5 and 2.
I also have developed a severe sun allergy about three years ago. I get a severe rash wherever the sun touches my skin with no sunscreen on it. 15minute exposure time.
Then I take SMZ-TMP for recurrent UTI’s. It’s a low dose antibiotic to be taken daily which I take maybe once or twice a week depending on how much the urine burns. Haven’t had a bladder infection for 6 months now, yeah. When I take that I avoid the sun altogether since it increases the sun sensitivity.
Other then that I’m fairly healthy maybe 5pounds over weight and try to excercise when I can and I stretch pretty regularly to reduce tension and low back pain.
As far as this pit pain I’m wondering when I’ll break down and go to the docter. For now, I’m just thinking it must be some kind of virus. I’m also wondering how long all of you have been experiencing this.

In the mood for a drink…let me take ya’ll to the bar, the Epstein-Bar. My blood work came back positive for EBV.

  22. I'm NUTS 08.Jul.03 at 3:57 pm

Glad I found this site. The doctor IS beginning to call me crazy. Don’t believe I am in such pain. Numbing and tingling in right arm. Armpit feels at times that you are shoving a knive in me. That severe! Been to doctor and Orthopedic. Have tennis elbo and slight tear in the rotator cuff – but can’t explain the armpit business. Going to GYN this month. Mayb e it has something to do with menopause! That have to come up with some excuse

  23. Nick 11.Jul.03 at 7:31 am

I am a 25 year old male and i have had occasional pains (but no obvious swelling) in both armpits, on and off, for over 5 years. I have always been too scared to talk to anyone because I am sure it is something fatal. It is always worse when i am stressed out about it- is it possible to bring this sort of pain on yourself? Is it in my head? I have no other obvious systems. No lumps. Just very minor stabbing pains.

  24. Thomas 11.Jul.03 at 9:49 am

Hey Nick, and all who come here for this thread; Go see a Doctor. Explain it to them. They are professionals and TREAT diseases.

Being afraid doesn’t help because in the end your armpits still hurt and you’re still afraid. Fear serves no purpose but to create stress, anxiety and delay assesment of your condition.

The sooner you do it, the sooner you can have those “Human Botfly Larvae” extracted from your pits, and not have them mature into pupa stage where they’ll slither up your neck and eat your basal ganglia.

    (Aren’t I just a ray of sunshine?)

  25. J 23.Jul.03 at 11:28 pm

damn….my pits starting itching a couple weeks ago…not severe, no swelling or pain…just wierd…

  26. C. 28.Jul.03 at 6:04 pm

WOW! I’ve got the pit thing going on too. Also have shooting pains through my heart at times. Supposedly it’s stress but….it’s my heart. The pit thing just seems to be an extension of the heart pains. Who knows?

  27. Thomas 29.Jul.03 at 6:56 am

Are you all insane!?!? If your armpits are itching, painful and you have shooting pains in your chest SEE A FUCKING DOCTOR!

A blog, no matter how witty and informative is NOT a holistic homeopathic remedy!

If another person comments about how their armpits have pains and they haven’t been to a doctor yet, they’re getting tossed off Jodi’s bridge…

I’ll borrow her bag of hammers too; “You want a pain to complain about? I’ll GIVE you a pain to complain about!!!”

  28. a 30.Jul.03 at 2:02 pm

i have a harding or lump under my arm…and i have rashes on both legs and arms…what could this be?

  29. Thomas 30.Jul.03 at 3:41 pm

I can help cure your armpit woes!!

    1) Log off the fucking computer.
    2) Pick up the fucking phone.
    3) Call a fucking doctor instead of “self-diagnosing” yourself on somebody’s BLOG!!!

I’m serious, if you think you’re going to find your answers on an internet diary, then you’re fucking nuts! SEE A FUCKING DOCTOR!!

  30. Mary Lewis 31.Jul.03 at 12:41 am

Hi Ya All, I am back! I did see a midwife for my armpit pain. She couldn’t tell me anything other then it might be hormonal. She didn’t see any swelling in the armpit(left one) even though it seemed kind of puffy to me. I had my mammogram taken the next day and the radiologist found a nodule in my left breast that wasn’t there a year ago. So now I have to have another mammogram done in 6 months to watch it. At this point the radiologist felt that the nodule is benign. (Non cancerous) This month my armpit pain is back. It was doing better for awhile though. See, Thomas some of us do check with the doctor. It is just that some of us are a little scared to go. Afraid that we might find out that something really bad is wrong with us. We post on this board to see if someone might have the same symptoms and to offer support. So please try to be a little kind and not so harsh. Thank you. Mary Lewis

  31. Thomas 31.Jul.03 at 6:42 am

You saw a MIDWIFE!?!? Jesus H. Christ on a unicycle. Why not consult a hot-dog vendor for a second opinion?

Let me spell it out: D.O.C.T.O.R. Doctor.

If you’re scared that the doctor could tell you that you have something “really bad is wrong” with you, then of COURSE it makes perfect sense to let it go unchecked for years until it necrifies your outer skin, right? I mean it must be SO much better to let something rot away your body from the inside rather than getting it checked and treated.

Here’s a quarter, go fucking buy a clue; GET A REAL LICENSED, CERTIFIED, BOARD RECOMMENDED DOCTOR TO DIAGNOSE ANY PAIN IN YOUR ARMPIT/CHEST/BODY. Even if it is “really bad”, delaying the prognosis will kill you. Guaran-fucking-teed. By the time my Dad saw someone about his “chest pains”, the cancer had spread throughout his entire body. He might as well have simply said, “Pain in my upper chest? Huh. I guess instead of having a doctor examine me right away, I’ll jump off the Sears Tower!”

Delaying proper (no midwives, spiritualists, faith healers or David Blaine) medical evaluation is exactly the same as putting a shotgun in your mouth and reaching for the trigger with your big toe.

  32. Mary Lewis 31.Jul.03 at 1:30 pm

Thomas, In case you didn’t know Midwives are qualified to do breast exams, pap tests and deliver babies. They can distinguish between a swollen gland or normal one. They know what a swelling looks like. They have a degree in nursing. You sound like an ignorant and uneducated person with a bad attitude. Where did you get your medical degree? Your foul mouth and bad attitude is unappreciated. Do everyone a big favor and take your bad attitude and potty mouth somewhere else. It is not amusing to anyone on this message board! Mary Lewis

I have much respect for nurses, and even midwives, but you sought out an underqualified individual. Your cries of “potty-mouth” don’t deminish your initial poor choice of medical professional. Thank GOD you actually had a more extensive procedure done.

Your irrational fear of “something bad” and “seriously wrong” is the main issue regardless of the vernacular I choose to use. Delay of treatment kills people. You yourself said that a proper medical exam found an anomoly that your vaunted midwife was unable to detect. Had you simply trusted an underinformed opinion, you would have this “benign” growth unchecked. Now, you have a measurement to compare to, and I suggest you do it soon. As for the others who google, altavista or otherwise search this site; I suspect they are trying to self-diagnose a potentially deadly symptom. By circumventing the real medical professionals, they are endangering themselves and are liable to cause much greater pain and suffering to their families if their symptoms become worse as their health diminishes and eventually die.

And this blog was never yours to hijak with bogus and disinformative information in the first place. This blog has only marginally discussed this topic, and it was offhand. You’ve turned it into a crusade where other cowardly people can gather and hide to wish away cancer. It doesn’t work that way.

As far as your personal opinions of me; I don’t give a rats ass. Opinions are like assholes; Most everyone’s stinks, they’re always full of shit and most of the time they shouldn’t be shared. And I don’t care if you are not amused, because you sure as hell don’t amuse me. If you are offended; Tough shit, sweetheart.

  35. Chris 31.Jul.03 at 4:08 pm

Umm, I thought midwives were for childbirth since that’s what my wife is seeing one for. But hey, can’t we all just get along?
