I saw a "spruce bug" or two in British Columbia... I'd like to ask a question about them too: does anyone know another name they might go by? This sucker was at least five centimeters long MINUS antennae and wings and fangs. I was told it was a spruce bug by a local, and that "they bite... HARD." Anyone have any clues?

My daughter came home with several bug bites on the back of her neck near her nape, they looked as though they were black fly bites. Also her friends mom saw a spruce bug on the back of her neck. Today there is this growth on the side of her neck near the bites she has 3 besides the groth that are red and inflamed the growth is not. Any ideas of what this is?
